I need actual home designs that are affordable between 800 to 1500 sq.ft. I’m interested in home designs that are entirely off grid using solar power and/or wind energy. I might want to use propane as a backup energy source. I’ve had trouble finding designs that you can buy online.

I am split. On one hand Propane comes from oil refining- a non-renewalable energy source, Charcoal comes from trees-Renewable, so it would seem easy.
But… Propane is a by product of oil refining so as long as we make gasoline we will have propane, so why not use it. But to make Charcoal we have to cut down trees, which seems very wasteful, plus trees are very important to keep the air clean.
It would seem to me that Propane would be the "greener" energy source. What do you think?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but in America, they seem to call household gas (for cooking/ central heating etc) LPG, which is liquid petroleum gas… a mixture of propane and butane.
In the UK, we use natural gas instead, which is mainly methane.
Why the difference? Is one more energy efficient than the other? I know that butane is C4H10 as opposed to methane’s CH4, but does that make it a better energy source?

I live in a modern duplex that I rent for 5 per month. Each month I pay approximately 200 for gas, elec, and water combined. I am thinking of renting a house in the country for 5 per month. BUT the water is trucked in and pumped from a cistern at per load. And the main energy source is propane. I’m trying to figure out if I will actually be worse off if I move.
