you will probably smell the gas if it’s leaking. But you can put soap water all over the cyclinder and in joints, if there is leakage then it will bubble where it is leaking.
There are propane detectors, like carbon monoxide detectors, but soapy water, the nose, and the ears (sound of gas leak) are likely to work first.
A soap solution if you have no sophisticated means.
Proopane is odorless and colorless in it’s natural state. A chemical called Ethyl Mercaptin is added to propane prior to leaving the refinery to give it a distinct smell of boiling cabbage or rotten eggs. If there is a leak, you will smell it!

Well, the most common and easiest way to detect a leak is by smell, further it can be cross checked by pouring some liquid soap at the joins or over the cylinder and leakage can be detected when bubbles start forming from the place of the leakage.
