if you are asleep would you smell it in time??????????dont be foolish, get whatever protection you can
natural gas has mercan added for the smell.
You don’t need a gas detector at all in your house. The gas company adds Methyl Mercaptant to natural gas and propane because they would otherwise be colourless and odourless. Methyl Mercaptant smells so you will detect any potential leak.
If your cooker was installed by a licensed pipe fitter, he will have checked for leaks using a soap solution, not a gas detector. You can make your own soap solution or buy some. Apply using a brush, escaping gas makes bubbles in the soap; you see bubbles, you see a leak.
Your CO detector will detect CO if it is produced by your cooker. If it produces CO, your cooker should be seen by a qualified technician, it needs adjusting.
The CO detector will not sense natural gas.
But you nose will, so your good.
If your worried about a leaking connection, most plumbers use soapy water in a spray bottle to find and fix leaks.
